Call us Woovie Makers

Published in Untagged  by Lance Fischer Print PDF
Since Fischer Studios has made the switch to creating content exclusively for the web, we've been trying to find a term that would tell others who we are and what we do. When people ask what's been going on with Fischer Studios I have a hard time explaining. I've said everything from "We now create Webisodes" or "I'm a web content creator". The problem is that as a company we have no identity without a term that classifies the work we do. Well I think Chris and I came up with a term that works for what we do "WOOVIE".

I know others have come up with similar terms to describe what they do, but we think "Woovie" works best for us. We tried numerous acronyms and never came up with anything that stuck. Eventually we decided on a term that could easily describe our place in the media world. Once we decided on a name to classify our profession, I did a search online for others that might have beat us to the punch. There were a couple sites that had come close, but we felt they missed a critical component and that was the "Web Only" part. With our informal research done, we feel confident that we have "coined" a new term for companies and individuals that create films and web series for the web. Of course we may be wrong, but could find no evidence on the web. In fact we even purchased a domain woovie.org with the goal to create a non-profit organization to help others in their WOOVIE creation endeavors. So from now on please refer to us as "WOOVIE" Makers.

I know you think it's stupid, but honestly we don't care. The meaning behind the name is quite simple; we are Web Only Movie Makers. Some of you might be confused and say, well web series are not movies so how can you consider yourself a "WOOVIE" maker if you don't make Movies?. That's easy, movies are actually moving pictures and since this definition still holds true and we do make moving pictures, we can confidently call ourselves "WOOVIE" Makers.

What does that mean for everyone else? That's up to you. Call yourself anything you wish, but at least we have something we can call ourselves. We are even talking about creating the first annual "WOOVIE" Awards. Maybe even with a large W as the trophy
