In 1975 a young married couple with one small child and pregnant with another, on the verge of financial collapse, moved from their tiny town to escape a past that would later come back to haunt them. The family, on the run from creditors and the law, decided to make a new life for themselves in California.

On a recommendation, they moved to a high desert valley about an hour north of Los Angeles.   Not exactly what they had hoped for when they got married, John and Derinda Sampson made the best of their dire situation. During the first six months things got better. They changed their identities, rented a small farmhouse and began to plan their future. Something happened during their seventh month that changed everything.

It was during this period that Derinda’s mental health started to fail. Always on the verge of a breakdown, Derinda reached a point in which she was irrational and was unable to separate her fantasy life from her real life.  Her mind became a personal prison, a hell she could not escape. With every passing day, her anger grew towards the one person her mind convinced, had caused her turmoil, her husband John.

Despite the early warnings of Derinda’s instability, they continued to live as if nothing had changed. During their eight month Derinda gave birth to their second child. J.R thier first child was the best thing in Derinda’s life, but her daughter, the one who reminded her of her husband, the man who had ruined her life, began to receive the brunt of her inner rage.

One day , a day like most others, would set the family on a path to destruction, death and a downward spiral into the lowest  pit of hate humanity has ever seen. 

This is their story.

The story, takes place west of Lancaster Ca, along highway 138. The high dessert area is noted for it’s remoteness, it’s creepy feel and the oddities that are seen at every turn. It is the perfect setting for the Drizzet family to lure in unsuspecting travelers, and do what they do best.
